Charity-tied sweepstakes have extra rules on top of the normal sweepstakes rules:
- Most US states require the charity to be a registered 501(c)(3) and may require the operator to be registered as a commercial fundraiser.
- The percentage of proceeds going to the charity must be disclosed.
- The charity's name and EIN should be in the official rules.
- Some states (e.g. NY) require a separate charitable registration.
On Meet Your Fan, charity campaigns are a first-class template. Filling in the charity-specific fields (registered name, EIN, % of proceeds, charity contact) is required before launch. The campaign page displays the charity disclosure prominently.
Simple "part of proceeds go to X" without a formal arrangement is not a charity campaign — it's a regular campaign with an influencer's personal pledge. Be careful not to conflate the two in your marketing.
